What Do Assisted Living and Memory Care Cost in Orlando?

"How much will this cost?" is often the first question families ask. It's a fair question. The honest answer is: it depends.

This guide explains what drives the price, what to ask, and how to plan. It won't give you a made-up number. Prices change, and every community sets its own.

Jen Brown, RN, is a former assisted living administrator. She walks families through their options every day, including long-term care insurance. Our help is free for every family. Connect with us or call 407.494.5220.

What published surveys say

One of the best-known cost studies is the CareScout 2025 Cost of Care Survey (for many years it was known as the Genworth Cost of Care Survey). CareScout collected provider-reported rates from July through November 2025.

According to that survey:

A median is the middle price. Half of communities cost more, and half cost less. Your loved one's real cost could be well above or below it.

CareScout also has a free online tool that shows median costs for the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford area. You can find it on CareScout's Cost of Care page.

The survey does not report a separate number for memory care, so we don't list one here.

Why prices vary so much

Two communities a few miles apart can have very different prices. Here's why.

Care level. Most communities price care by how much help someone needs. Help with a shower and reminders costs less than help with many daily tasks.

Apartment size. A shared room, a studio, and a one-bedroom are priced differently. A second person in the apartment may add a fee.

Memory care. Memory care is often priced higher than standard assisted living. These communities are built for more structure, more supervision, and secure spaces. Ask each one for its exact rates.

How fees are set up. Some communities charge one all-in monthly rate. Others charge a base rate plus separate care fees.

Extra charges. Ask about move-in or community fees, medication help, transportation, salon services, and guest meals.

Questions to ask every community

Bring this list on tours. Ask for answers in writing.

  1. What is the base monthly rate for this apartment?
  2. How do you decide the care level, and what does each level cost?
  3. Is there a one-time move-in or community fee?
  4. What is extra? Medication help? Laundry? Transportation?
  5. How often do rates go up, and how much notice do you give?
  6. What happens to the price if care needs change?
  7. Do you work with long-term care insurance? What paperwork do you need?

Jen can help you build a simple side-by-side sheet so you compare the same things at each place.

Ways families pay

Private funds. Many families use savings, retirement income, or money from selling a home.

Long-term care insurance. Many policies help pay for assisted living or memory care. Each policy is different. Look for the daily or monthly benefit, the waiting period, and what paperwork the insurer needs. Jen walks families through these questions and helps you know what to ask the insurer.

Veterans benefits. Some veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for benefits that help with costs. Ask the VA or an accredited veterans service officer.

Other programs and benefits. Many families don't know there are other ways to help pay for assisted living. Depending on your loved one's situation, programs and benefits may be available. We know these resources and can help you learn which ones may fit your family.

Medicare. Medicare generally does not pay for the monthly cost of assisted living. It also does not cover custodial care, like help with bathing and dressing, when that is the only care needed. Source: Medicare.gov, Long-term care coverage

Frequently asked questions

What does assisted living cost in Orlando?
It depends on the community, the care level, and the apartment size. Published surveys can give you a starting point. The only way to know your real cost is to ask each community for a written quote. Jen can help you gather and compare those quotes.

Is memory care more expensive than assisted living?
Often, yes, because memory care is built for more structure and supervision. But prices vary. Ask each community for its exact rates.

Does long-term care insurance cover assisted living?
Many policies do, but every policy is different. Check your policy's benefit amount and waiting period, and call the insurer. Jen can help you know what to ask.

Does Medicare pay for assisted living?
Generally, no. Medicare does not pay the monthly cost of assisted living. See Medicare.gov for details.

Do you charge for help with costs and planning?
No. Our help is free for every family. You never get a bill from us.

Can you tell us which community is the cheapest?
We can help you compare real quotes side by side. But the cheapest place is not always the best fit. Jen helps you weigh cost, care, and location together.
